How many times can you fold a piece of paper? (How thick would it be?)

This isn't exactly elementary math, but I've had many students try to see how many times they can fold a piece of paper.  For a long time I told them that you can't fold a letter sized piece of paper more than 7 times.   Now it turns out you can fold it several more times, and the result is incredibly thick.
